Behold the peplum...a perennial favorite of the late 80s, albeit one of the more questionable trends. See below (a few chuckles/head slaps/grimaces may ensue):
Peplum (n): A short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse or dress
Fortunately, our favorite 2012 designers have taken on and modernized the more fashion forward and flattering aspects of the peplum, pairing them with sleek trousers and skinnies, sky-high pumps and structured blazers. The ridiculous and laughable additions (i.e. boxy silhouettes, giant bows, exaggerated shoulder pads, puff sleeves, dowdy skirts) have forcibly remained inside the time capsule. Whew....

Current Favorites: Parker corset and Lilly Pulitzer eyelet Maybell dress- First off, I own the Parker corset in white and black, and wear them both all the time. They are sexy and chic, and perfect with a great blazer and big ol' statement necklace. Kind of my go-to when I'm in a fashion rut. Secondly, I have to say that usually Lilly Pulitzer makes me gag (I'm sorry, I just can't handle all the preppy, overdone prints and colors) but this lovely dress is the perfect blend of sophisticated and sweet. I love the ultra-flattering silhouette and the smallest peplum detail. This actually may be a future spring purchase....

Current Favorite: Sonia Rykiel colorblock dress. I can't get enough of the bright tangerine and mellow mauve- a color combo I wouldn't expect, but absolutely love!

Current Favorite: Silk blend skirt by Matthew Williamson. Love the idea of this with a cropped jacket or even a simple white button-down and several strands of pearls.
